The KONOS Academy sports program is open to the whole homeschool community. Each sport provides students with an opportunity to participate and compete on a team, hone their physical skills, and satisfy the PE credit requirement.

Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country

Schedule: tryouts July 2017:  season begins in early August through late October

Ages: 9 years (fourth grade) and up; runners will compete as either Juniors, MS, or Varsity 

Fees: $350 for first participant; $175 for siblings, additional discount for more siblings

MICHELLE VILLARS (Athletic Director and Cross Country Coach)
A graduate of Troy University, with a B.S. degree in business/marketing. Long-term homeschool mom of four sons, she has been competing in triathlons/running events for several years, including a half-iron man and many half and full marathon events. Coach Villars is an active member of the Peachtree City Running Club.  Her oldest son serves in the U.S. Army, two sons are recent Konos graduates and her youngest is currently a freshman at Konos Academy.

JOSHUA THORNTON (Middle School Basketball Coach)
Josh is a sports fan at heart and has coached basketball, baseball, soccer, and football over the past 20 years.  He was a member of the baseball team and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a BS degree in Land Use and Real Estate Economics.  Josh has been managing, developing and financing projects in the commercial real estate industry throughout his career and also has a variety of other entrepreneurial pursuits.  Josh and his wife Sarah, have five children and he enjoys spending time with family, playing golf and cooking.

DUN HAHN (Varsity and Middle School Girls Volleyball Coach)
Dun has been coaching girls’ volleyball for over 13 years as a head coach for Tsunami Volleyball where some of his teams were ranked among the best in the country.  He has an exceptional gift for connecting with players of all ages and levels, and understands everyone is different and has their own special abilities.  In 2011, as an assistant coach for Georgia State University, he helped guide the Panthers to the school’s first conference postseason berth in six years and a fourth place finish in the Colonial Athletic Association. Along the way, the Panthers recorded a second straight 8-6 CAA record, the first time above .500 in back-to-back seasons for GSU in league play since 2003-04.  From 2005-2010, Hahn was an associate head volleyball coach at St. Pius X Catholic High School in Atlanta. He was twice named the region Assistant Coach of the Year by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association.

CRAIG SMOKOWICZ (Boys and Girls Soccer Coach)
Craig has been coaching youth soccer for 7 years. Although he played as a youth himself, his passion for the game took shape when he was living in Brazil. Craig has successfully completed the national soccer association G, F and State E licensing. He and his wife Ana have two children attending KONOS Academy. Craig has a master’s degree in mechanical engineering.  He currently works for Delta Air Lines as an aircraft performance engineer.  His desire is to teach the players godly life lessons through sports, engaging players to appreciate the importance of hard work and teamwork both on and off the pitch.

LARRY GLOZIER (Varsity Boys Baseball Coach)
Larry has been coaching baseball for over 10 years. He played at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, IN where he was a two-time All-Region and three-time All-Conference player. He was a member of the 1996 Division II National Championship Runner-Up team. After graduating from St. Joseph’s he signed with the Florida Marlins. He played two years in the Florida Marlins Minor League System.Larry and his wife Bethany have six children.

Paul has been coaching youth soccer for over 9 years and has successfully completed the USSF Category F Licensing. Paul has an accounting degree, an MBA, and is a CPA. He is currently employed by Chick-fil-A where he has worked for the last 20 years. Paul and his wife, Cassie, are youth leaders in their church and have two children currently attending Konos.

COLBY ALLEN (Assistant Basketball Coach)
Colby has been involved in coaching basketball, baseball, soccer and football for more than ten years.He played collegiate football at Bridgewater College in Virginia where he earned a degree in Health Science. He moved on to Old Dominion University where he earned his Master of Physical Therapy Degree. Colby has always loved basketball and his passion for the game grew when he met and married Holley, who attended the University of Louisville. He is an avid Louisville fan (thanks to Holley) and follows the Cardinals’ Program closely. Colby has taken his passion for sports to the healthcare arena where he serves as a physical therapist and works closely with athletes in the local area. Colby and Holley have been married for 15 years and have four children: Logan, Jocelyn, Kylee Grace and Macey. Colby enjoys weight-lifting, watching sports, reading and spending time with his family.
